Streetgames March Update

Big Sports Day, Skate Club and much more!

On Thursday March 10, Streetgames provided The Big Sports Day 2022 alongside 22 partner organisations. With over 250 people in attendance, The Big Sports Day 2022 was an outstanding success for the Latrobe community.

Attractions included an inflatable dartboard, Big Jenga, Therapy Dogs, Vision Goggles, Sausage Sizzle, Live music, Free Showbags, and much more. The event was an opportunity for local organisations to come together, connecting the community with their organisation.

This year was the biggest event to date with participants reporting “This year was way better” and “this is really fun”. Participants shared their thoughts on the day, “we enjoyed the great live music” and “therapy dogs are very cute”. “It was great to have sport and art in the same space, we can’t wait for next year!” one family shared.

Streetgames would like to extend a huge thank you to the partner organisations, as well as all the participants who came down to have some fun.

Gippsport Streetgames attended the Latrobe Valley Jobs Fair of March 10th, 2022, at Kernot Hall. This event brought together job seekers, employers, employment providers and industry bodies to a central location to assist the economy to bounce back from the effects of covid. The Jobs Fair incorporated employment opportunities from Latrobe City, Bass Coast Shire, Baw Baw Shire, East Gippsland Shire, South Gippsland Shire and the Wellington Shire.

Streetgames are currently seeking passionate people to join our crew. We currently have positions available for a Skate/Scoot Scholarship, Casual Social Sport Crew and Skate and/or scoot coaches. Full training will be provided free of charge to successful candidates. If you are passionate about sports and recreation, please email Den at Den@gippsport.com.au to express your interest.

As of term 1 2022, Gippsport Streetgames has been offering Sporting Schools and Special Olympics classes to local schools. Streetgames is currently providing programming for three schools during term 1, with more Schools signing up for term 2.

Sporting Schools and Special Olympics are free programs that help children build their confidence and capability to be active for life through teaching the principles of physical literacy.

Participants reported that they were having fun while learning. Participants at Warragul Specialist School reported that “It was great to have someone come in (the school) to teach sports. We really enjoyed tennis balancing skills and Rob the Nest!”. The participants enjoyed developing their teamwork through basic games such as Rob the Nest.

Multicultural Go Soccer Mums Trafalgar is almost complete, with our last session on the 30th of March. Streetgames is proud to have provided this series sponsored by Football Victoria, in partnership with United Muslim Sisters of Latrobe Valley Inc.

GippSport Streetgames are excited to be partnering with Football Victoria  to bring you another Go Soccer Mums program, Go Soccer Mums Morwell.

Go Soccer Mums is not just for mums – but for all women, from all walks of life! It doesn’t matter if you have never kicked a football before, everyone is welcome. Our fantastic coach Hannah tailors the program to the participants’ level, resulting in a truly unique program.

Women and children have been made to feel included by our coach Hannah, as she not only provides an inclusive program for the women, but fun activities for the children to keep them entertained while she runs the GO Soccer Mums program. If you are interested in signing up for the free program, leave us a message on Facebook @latrobestreetgames.

Streetgames will be hosting Skate and Scoot events across Gippsland during April. Streetgames, in partnership with AtlasCo Kids and AtlasCo Online are giving away a Root Industries Invictus 2 Scooter to one lucky winner. All participants who attended a Skate Competition between January and March and left their contact details on the participant registration will go into the draw. Stay tuned to our socials for the announcement of the winner.

We have recently launched a second Skate Club. We are now providing Skate Club on Mondays in Drouin and Tuesdays in Morwell. Skate Club is a professionally delivered program by trained local coaches who are highly skilled, experienced, and passionate about riding. We look forward to seeing you at our next event.
